Streptomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and has a bactericidal action
against many gram-negative bacteria.
Aminoglycosides are transported into sensitive bacterial cells by an active
transport proces. Within the cell, it binds to the 30S subunit (S12 protein),
inhibiting protein synthesis and generating errors in the transcripton of
the genetic code.
